About Kinney Avenue

Our Mission

As a generational church of Christ followers, we will cultivate disciples rooted in fulfilling the Great Commission commanded in God’s Word.

Our Vision

Our purpose is to be a wellspring of the life of Christ through His Spirit by fostering in one another an abiding devotion to God’s glory and the renown of His name. As a multigenerational family of believers, we are called to live out biblical relationship first with the Lord and then with one another, with people in our city and reaching to people around the world. We have a mission to proclaim the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection, to celebrate as people receive new life in Jesus, and to teach, encourage, and equip others to go and do the same.

Our Values

Engage

We strive to engage meaningfully with our community about the gospel.

Evangelize

We strive to evangelize people to hear and respond to Christ as Savior and Lord.

Encourage

We strive to encourage believers to trust and follow the Shepherd.

Equip

We strive to equip believers to know, love, and serve God wholeheartedly.

Excel

We strive to excel at all God gives us to do through His grace working mightily in us.

What We Believe.

At our core, we believe in Jesus. We believe in the fully God, fully man, born of a virgin, only Son of God. We believe he lived a perfect life, healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water, and spoke a message of peace so compelling we cannot help but follow. We believe he was unjustly crucified, buried in a grave, rose to life, and ascended into heaven! All of this is part of God’s loving plan to save us from our own disastrous ways and bring us back to him. Why? Because he loves us. And all he asks is that we believe. So we believe in Jesus.
“In essentials Unity, in non-essentials Liberty, and in all things Charity.” – Rupertus Meldenius

We do our best to align our lives and community with what we understand to be Biblical essentials for Christian faith. These are the tried and true foundations recognized hundreds of years ago and followed by millions of people. We find roots in the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.

There are a few things we understand, but a lot that we don’t. We leave space for honest conversation and even disagreement about non-essentials (i.e. gender roles, how to worship, use of spiritual gifts, politics, whether Jesus drank wine, predestination, election, end times, the length of Jesus’ hair, etc.) We approach non-essentials with humble, thoughtful and prayerful Biblical interpretation.

In all things we attempt to show love, acceptance and forgiveness. Especially when we disagree.

We adhere to the beliefs and statements of faith ascribed to in The Baptist Faith and Message, 2000 Edition. A copy of the Baptist Faith and Message, 2000 Edition may be purchased online or at Liefeway.com.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
